1. What does the Nativity of Christ mean for the Macedonian Orthodox community in the diaspora?

For us in the diaspora, Christmas is more than a holiday—it is a spiritual anchor. The Nativity of Christ is a reminder that God is with us, no matter how far we are from our homeland. It is a moment when every Macedonian in Chicago feels the warm breath of the fatherland, the scent of the Yule log, and the sense of unity that has sustained us through the centuries.

2. How did you experience this year’s liturgy and the spiritual atmosphere?

This year, the atmosphere was filled with a special grace. Seeing the churches full of young families and children filled my heart with hope. The prayerful whisper and the collective “Lord, have mercy” created a sense that heaven had descended among us. It was not merely a service, but a living testament that our faith is alive and strong.

3. How much do the support and love of the faithful mean to you?

A priest without his people is like a shepherd without a flock. The love of the faithful is my greatest strength. Every shared joy at a baptism and every word of comfort in times of sorrow bind me inseparably to these people. They are not merely my parishioners; they are my extended family. Their trust is my greatest motivation to continue serving God with faithfulness and devotion.

4. What feelings does the rank of Protopresbyter-Stavrophore and the pectoral cross evoke for you?

I receive this high distinction with great humility and gratitude. The pectoral cross is not an ornament for pride, but a reminder of an even greater responsibility and sacrifice. This recognition is not only for me, but for our entire community—it is an affirmation of our shared mission and perseverance on the path of Orthodoxy.

5. What is the role of the priest among younger generations in a foreign land?

Today, the priest must serve as a spiritual bridge. For the young people growing up here, we need to be those who translate the language of faith into everyday life. We must listen to their modern dilemmas with understanding, offering them eternal truths as a guide so they do not get lost in the world, while preserving the Macedonian spirit within them.

6. The Church as a center for preserving language and tradition?

The Church is our spiritual and national guardian. Outside of Macedonia, if we lose the Church, we lose our roots. It is the only place where the Macedonian word has echoed for centuries. Here, we learn about our ancestors, nurture the traditional dances, songs, and customs. Without the Church, assimilation would be inevitable.

7. What are the greatest challenges facing the Macedonian Church in America?

The greatest challenge is how to preserve unity and how to motivate the new generations to remain active members of the community. We live in a fast-paced era that often distances us from the spiritual. Our task is to demonstrate that our identity is not a burden, but a treasure and a source of pride.

8. What can the homeland do for the Church in Chicago?

We need a helping hand and recognition that we are an inseparable part of the Macedonian national fabric. Greater support is needed for educational programs, for preserving the language among children, and more frequent communication. When we know that the homeland cares for us, our efforts here become much easier.

9. What can most strongly unite Macedonians in Chicago?

Love for God and for one’s own people. When we set aside ego and focus on what unites us—our faith, our history, and the future of our children-we become an invincible community. Forgiveness and mutual respect are the keys to unity.

10. A Christmas message to all Macedonians around the world?

Beloved, may the Bethlehem light illuminate your homes. Do not forget who you are and where you come from. Preserve the Orthodox faith, spread love instead of hatred, and be proud Macedonians wherever you are. May the peace of God be with you all. Christ is Born!
