Interview with Viktoria Petrovska – Journalist, Host, and Moderator

At a time when public discourse is under constant pressure and trust in the media is increasingly being put to the test, journalism has become a profession that demands courage, integrity, and personal responsibility.
Viktorija Petrovska is part of the new generation of Macedonian journalists and hosts who do not shy away from difficult questions, but pose them clearly, argumentatively, and with a high level of professionalism. She is one of the few figures on the Macedonian media scene who consistently respects and cultivates the Macedonian literary language and orthography, distinguished by exceptional diction and a beautiful voice that many already recognize.

In this interview for FROMMK.COM, the portal that connects Macedonians in America and around the world, we discuss journalism and moderating today, personal challenges, the role of the media in shaping public opinion, as well as the human side behind the camera.
We explore the path of Viktoria Petrovska, what motivates her to persevere, and how she envisions the future in the interview below.

1. Who is Viktoria Petrovska?

Viktoria Petrovska seems at first glance like an ordinary young woman, yet she carries big dreams, clearly defined goals, and eternal ambition as the driving force behind everything she does. Responsible, naturally rebellious, courageous, loyal, and a perpetual seeker of justice.

2. Why journalism, hosting, and moderating? What was decisive in choosing this profession, what connects these three fields, and where does Viktoria feel most herself?

I always connect the answer to this question with my beginnings, which trace back to elementary school when I started actively writing prose and poetry and was entrusted with moderating almost every cultural event. Even then, I knew this would be a lifelong love—and so it has been! At least so far, the love hasn’t faded, the ambition remains the same, though the challenges differ. From there, the first image I have of myself is that Viktoria—with a microphone, on stage, among the audience, attending events daily, surrounded by many people.
I believe that shaped my profession! Although I am a lawyer by degree (Master’s in Business Law), what I do today—mostly hosting and moderating—is where I truly feel like myself.

3. What fulfills you the most? What are your hobbies outside of your profession, and who is Viktoria behind the camera?

If I had to choose what fulfills me today, it would most likely be a part of the day spent with a relaxed coffee and a book to myself, time with my parents—which, as the years go by, becomes increasingly precious—some playful moments with my sister, chats and travels with my friend Marija, and moments with my loved ones. I’m not sure how much I can talk about hobbies, given that my free time is really limited due to work obligations, but I always try to find space for gym workouts (this year I’ve taken work very seriously), I love walking, climbing Vodno, being as much in nature as possible (I think we often underestimate the power of nature), reading as many books as I can, writing, and traveling… I have never stopped writing. Those who know me are aware that I have published two books of poetry, and I believe it’s time for something new to find its light of day.
Viktoria behind the camera—hmm? Well, the same, just maybe twice as energetic (haha). Emotional (even if it doesn’t always seem like it), honest, vulnerable, and a great friend.

4. What does journalism backed by responsibility to the public mean to you in a world of extreme speed, breaking news, and social media?

For me, journalism—especially today—means responsibility to the truth and to the people, even in a time when the world moves faster than we do. In this truly crazy era, where information is received in an instant, I remain firm in the belief that responsible journalism is not about being first—it is about being accurate, verified, and, above all, honest!

5. How do you view the role of the media today in the Republic of Macedonia: as critically minded, the voice of the citizens, or something entirely different?

Today, I view the role of the media in Macedonia primarily as complex and responsible, but also as a role constantly at a crossroads. Ideally, the media should serve both as a critical check on those in power and as an authentic voice of the citizens. However, in our reality, challenges frequently arise—from political and economic pressures to the race for attention and clicks. I believe that the true power of the media does not lie in sensationalism, but in the courage to ask the right questions and speak in the public’s interest, even when it is not the most popular choice. When the media becomes a bridge between institutions and citizens, rather than a megaphone for someone’s demands and wishes, only then can we truly speak of professionalism.

6. How do you view the position of Macedonian journalists in connecting with the diaspora?

I see it as a great opportunity, yet an underutilized potential. The diaspora is truly a strong, vibrant, and emotionally connected part of our society, and journalists play a key role in keeping that connection alive, authentic, and reciprocal. I believe today’s challenge lies in creating stories that connect Macedonians abroad with events at home, while also giving voice to their successes, challenges, and perspectives. Macedonian journalism can and should serve as a bridge between the homeland and the diaspora—through responsible reporting, respect for diversity, and a genuine desire for connection.

7. What was it like to create your first independent TV project?

A mix of excitement, responsibility, and personal satisfaction. The cultural-entertainment show “Od Svoja Strana” and the project “Skopje is Home to Me” have been the most rewarding experiences for me in this profession. The process brings many challenges—from the idea, concept, and execution, to the daily dedication and faith that the audience will recognize the project. In the end, the feeling is a confirmation that when you work with passion, love, and responsibility, the project finds its audience.

8. How do you balance your personal life with your public role, and does your work affect your closest ones?

Public work naturally brings exposure, dynamics, and responsibility, but for me, it is very important to maintain a clear boundary between where the professional ends and the personal begins.
Of course, my work affects my closest ones—most often through the pace, responsibilities, and the audience. What matters most to me is that my loved ones understand my profession and everything it entails. I strive to be present and not let my public role completely define me in private. Support, understanding, and mutual communication are key, because behind every public role there is a person with their own feelings, priorities, and need for personal peace.

9. You are considered one of the most recognizable and attractive television personalities hosts in Macedonia. At a time when public figures are increasingly part of advertising campaigns, do you receive offers for endorsements? What do you agree to promote, and what are the key principles that must be met for you to stand behind something with your name and credibility?

I never accept collaborations or advertisements that do not align with my personality and who I am. I start from my values, which makes it very easy for me to assess whether I am or am not the right fit for a particular advertising collaboration.

10. Can you reveal to us what your next project will be?

I am glad to share exclusively with your media outlet that my next challenge is the Morning Program on Alfa Television – Good Morning, Every Morning. Early risers, starting Monday, we will enjoy our morning coffee together, accompanied by engaging and useful content.

11. Is Viktoria in love?

Now and always, amen! Haha. In love with the beautiful life, the small, seemingly simple yet most meaningful things in the world. In love with my work, with the excitement each new day brings, with new challenges! In love, happy, and deeply grateful!

12. What message would you like to share with Macedonians in America and around the world?

To preserve their emotional connection to their roots, no matter how far away they are physically. Language, culture, tradition, and the sense of belonging are what connect us and make us strong, wherever we may be! At the same time, I would encourage them to be proud ambassadors of Macedonia—through their work, actions, and success stories.

Thank you, dear Viktoria, for the conversation and your detailed answers.
We wish you success in every endeavor.

Thank you to you as well. Wishing you good health and all the best. Until our next reading!
