Strong Earthquake Felt in Macedonia – Epicenter Near Prizren

An earthquake of significant magnitude was felt tonight in Skopje and several other cities across the country. The tremor occurred at 10:05 PM, and according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), its magnitude measured 4.9 on the Richter scale.

According to initial reports, the epicenter was located in the Prizren area, near the border between Kosovo and Macedonia. The earthquake occurred at a relatively shallow depth of around five kilometers, which caused the tremor to be felt more strongly across the wider region.

The telemetric seismic network at the Seismological Observatory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje reported that the recorded local magnitude was ML 4.6, with the epicenter originating in the territory of Kosovo, approximately 45 kilometers northwest of the capital.

According to current data, it was felt most strongly in Tetovo, Gostivar, and their surrounding areas, with an intensity of V on the European Macroseismic Scale. In Skopje, the tremor reached an intensity of IV to V, while in other parts of the country it was felt with an intensity between III and IV.

So far, there is no information about possible material damage or injured persons.
